I was an insomniac even as a little girl. My insomnia made me anxious and afraid for many years. It doesn't so much any more.
Sometimes my most lucid moments are in the middle of the night. There is an acute clarity of perception in a dark, silent house.
On Insomnia
A tumult of lucidity
Assaults me in the night
I toss and turn, fret and curse
My anxious, jumpy mind
Insomnia's my punishment
Nocturnal cross and plague
I close my eyes, squeeze them tight
Breathe slowly, pray and wait
For the sleep, perchance, that binds
And then I feel afraid
I wish you sweet dreams and good sleep.
Be well and good luck,
MM
