From the recording The Shelter of My Belonging

I have been reading a book entitled Anam Cara by John O'Donohue.  He refers to friendship as 'the circle of belonging' or as a 'house of belonging.'  As I was reading that book, it seemed to me that certainly I've no better friend than Jesus.  "No greater love has any man than to lay down his life for his friends.'
I also always liked the analogy of Jesus being a hen, sheltering her chicks.  I don't remember where that is in the Bible, but it has always been a beautiful and charming image to me.
And so, as I read Anam Cara, the phrase 'the shelter of my belonging' kept going through my head in reference to Jesus Christ.

Lyrics

The Shelter of My Belonging

You are the shelter of my belonging
it's your sweet love, that makes me whole
You are the voice that's ever calling
Calling my name, leading me home

No greater love has any man
Than to lay down his life for a friend
But Jesus, Lord, that's what you did
When you died on the cross for all my sins

You are the shelter, of my belonging
I'm not cast into the outer dark
You are the shelter of my belonging
I thank you, Jesus, with all my heart

You are the shelter of my belonging
It's your sweet love, that makes me whole
You are the voice that's ever calling
Calling my name, leading me home

You are the shetler of my belonging
It's your sweet love that saves my soul
