From the recording To Higher Ground

I wrote this song for Nashville after the great flood of May 2010. Downtown Nashville was inundated in water. Nashville is a unique city. Not only is it Music City, but it has also been, historically, the capital of Bible and Christian printing. Hence my line, "See our faces, we are God's children, Faithful Christians, we are devout." Nashville is recovering from the flood and from what I understand, is coming back better, stronger and more united than ever.

Lyrics

To Higher Ground There's a flood of tribulation Water's muddy, water's deep There's a flood of tribulation Washing through these city streets We have heard our sisters crying And we've seen some brothers drown Jesus, calm these troubled waters And lead us on to Higher Ground (Chorus) Lead us on to Higher Ground When cruel waves are surging round Still the waters and lead us out Lead us on to Higher Ground Lead us home to Higher Ground We have walked the deepest valley And we've heard the tempest roar But our harbor is you, Lord Jesus You're our port, in every storm See our faces, we are God's children Faithful Christians, we are devout Voices raised in prayer and music Lead us on to Higher Ground copyright 2010, Martha Maria
