For some reason this spring (2013) I've been going back to my first love, the piano. I've been composing a LOT of piano music lately. I call them all 'Trifles' since they don't have the gravitas of a sonata or even a sonatina form. And besides, the word 'trifle' seems fittingly modest for a woman who sits in the Tennessee woods, banging on her piano for the squirrels and birds. Even 'bagatelle' which also means 'trifle' just seems a trifle too highfalutin for me. (Yes, that IS the way you spell highfalutin....I just looked it up! That word always reminds me of my mother. What a wonderful play with words she (and everybody else in Sugar Tree, Tennessee had!)
